We first crossed paths at Zilker Park in Austin, TX. John was playing lacrosse with friends while Sarah chatted with a friend. New to Austin, Sarah remembers seeing his group and wishing she could be a part of it. John remembers wishing he had stopped her and said hello. Months later, Sarah was invited to a mutual friend’s birthday party on Cinco De Mayo, and we officially met! Six months later we were dating. Sarah knew from the start we were meant for each other—we have now been together for 8.5 years! We got married in New Hampshire in the sumer of 2019. All the Texan guests brought the heat with them, though; it was 100 degrees on our wedding day!
We are laid back, outgoing people with a strong support network of close friends and family nearby. We love spending time together and seeing and experiencing new places, people, and foods! As a couple, we both enjoy spending quiet time at home with our dog as much as we enjoy going out to restaurants and spending time with friends and family. Boating, beaches, and nature fill us both, so we spend a lot of time outdoors and traveling to New England. We also love skiing and snowboarding together.
John is a partner at his firm, focusing on marketing and PR strategy for portfolio companies. We are lucky in that John works from home and he’s able to make his own schedule, so he is looking forward to being a hands-on dad. John is Scotch-Irish, English and German—and a multi-generation Texan! He played lacrosse in college, chaired several social organizations, and started a charity with friends that built 15 public wells in Africa. He currently mentors and sits on the advisory boards of many startup incubators.
Sarah loves animals…a lot! She is obsessed with her dog, Auggie, and three young nephews. They are her world. Sarah is Swedish, Chilean, English, and Scottish. She loves learning about history and family traditions. She has two sisters, one is 11 months older and the other is her twin! Sarah is a former corporate IT manager and experienced project manager. She now consults but is lucky to be a stay-at-home mom for our future child!
Dear Birth Mom,
Big hugs. If you’re reading this, you’re making an incredibly difficult and courageous decision for yourself and your child. It’s admirable, and we have nothing but respect for you. So thank you for getting to know us. We’re kind-hearted, loving, down-to-earth people, and we’re very excited to meet you.
A bit about us…we’ve long aspired to be awesome parents. We first started trying to have a family after we got married about five years ago, but, as it turns out, a natural-born child wasn’t in our plan, just as this pregnancy likely wasn’t in yours. We tried everything under the sun—the good ol’ fashion way, IVF, and even egg donors—but, alas, nothing worked! On the bright side, our journey has afforded us ample time to prepare our home and contemplate the style of parents we want to be. We know we want to adopt. We know we want to be fun, supportive, and intentional. We know we want to love unconditionally, and be there for all of life’s events—good and bad. We know we want to teach, guide and encourage mental, physical and spiritual development, but also allow for independent thought and self-discovery. We know we want to foster safe, open, trusting relationships—and aspire to be best friends, not just parents.
If you pick us, we promise to honor this way of life and parenting style for your child. We promise to love them, immediately, as if they were our own. We promise to give them a full and rich life, and to set them up for success. And we promise to include you in our journey, if that’s your wish, and share along the way.
We’re currently God Parents to two beautiful boys, and several of our siblings were fortunate to have children of their own, so there’s already three cousins (ages 5, 6, and 7) eagerly waiting to meet whoever joins our family.
Life is long, and there is goodness in the world. Be kind to yourself. We hope whatever decision you make brings you inner peace and relief.
With Love,
John and Sarah
John is fun-loving, kind, generous and thoughtful. He thinks of others and goes out of his way to make sure those he loves feel supported. I love him for his inquisitive nature, stability, intelligence, contagious laugh, and sense of responsibility. He’s an introverted extrovert who collects friends wherever he goes (he loves to host them for elaborate dinners, somehow without any stress!). He is a lifelong learner, and is interested in just about everything. Seeing him with our nephews is amazing. He is going to be the most thoughtful and patient father.
John's father and step mother live 30 minutes away and we visit them often to get out of the city and enjoy the countryside with campfires, BBQs and playing the guitar. John also has a large extended family who all live in TX and we frequently see his cousins for birthdays and holidays.
Sarah is the sweetest, kindest, most-compassionate human being on EARTH! I’m so fortunate to have her in my life. She is my rock, my heart, my life sidekick. I love her because she has a huge heart. She’s also unwaveringly loyal, fiercely opinionated yet open minded, and a calm spirit. She is universally loved by everyone because she gets along with everybody. Her life calling is to be a mother, and she’s been practicing for years on our friends’ kids and our nephews.
Sarah's family live in New England but the 2,000 mile distance doesn't prevent us from seeing them often. With nephews aged 7, 6, and 5 we have prioritized fostering our relationship with each of them. And with that, our time at home is often spent being goofy with them and doing fun activities as a big family. Sarah's parents live about 10 minutes from her older sister and Sarah's twin sister lives about an hour away. We spend most of every summer in New England to escape the TX summer heat and can't wait to bring a little one along with us to enjoy the ocean and lake!
We recently renovated our 1920 two-story home which has tons of space for family and friends. It is peaceful, private, and warm. Our home has a spacious backyard, plunge pool, and large wooden playscape that our nephews and friends' children love. We have a nursery, three additional bedrooms for visiting family, as well as a designated playroom! Needless to say, our home is perfect for a growing family!
There are two beautiful city parks a couple blocks away, one with a brand new expansive playground and hiking trails, and the other with a huge pool, playscape and baseball field!
We are lucky to be in what feels like a quiet suburban town but that is actually only a few minutes from downtown in our big city. So we get to take advantage of all the things a large city has to offer, like amazing public libraries, children's museums and nature trails, while having the peace and tranquility of a small and neighborly street.
