Dear Birth Mom,
We are grateful that you would consider our family as a possible placement for your baby and want to share with you who we are and how your child will be raised in our home, if given the opportunity.
We have two biological daughters - Avonlea (7) and Felicity (4). Our family lives in a suburb outside Washington, DC, and we love exploring all the city has to offer with museums, parades, and festivals. Plus, there is nothing quite like the Fourth of July in the nation's capital! One of our favorite activities is to go to the National Zoo, get soft-serve ice cream,
and watch the lions.
We were both raised in Southern California but met while serving at our church in DC and have been happily married for nine years. We attend church every week and our family is involved in a close-knit Bible study group filled with families who have young children too.
Your child will have their own room in our house that is already decorated in a safari animal theme. When at home, we would love to have them join us in our favorite activities of jumping on the trampoline in the backyard; riding our bikes and scooters to go see the turtles in a nearby pond; and of course, eating ice cream on our back porch! (are you sensing a trend here with our love of ice cream?!) Avonlea and Felicity are eager for another sibling to join the fun!
We understand adoption well since Abby has three adopted brothers, an adopted sister, and seven adopted cousins, all from various races and cultures. Your child will be very loved by an extended family who will welcome them warmly, like we have done with so many adopted children before. We very much want another child, and while we could have another biological child since we have no infertility issues, we long to grow our family through adoption. We strongly believe God has called us in this direction. Adoption was such a joy-filled part of Abby's diverse family that we also wanted to make it part of our own family's story.
If you so choose in the years to come, we will happily share photos and stories of what your child is doing and how they are growing and developing. Also, we would enjoy regular visits with you as your child grows, if you feel comfortable with that.
We would love to meet you and answer any questions you may have about our family. We are praying for you as you make this important decision!
I was born into a Christian family in 1979. Over the years my extended family fell away from their faith, but my nuclear family stayed strong in their faith and remains so today. During my elementary school years I attended Methodist (where I was confirmed in my faith and re-baptized at age 12) and Non-Denominational churches. However, my enthusiasm for Christ really caught fire in my early high school years at Mariners Church when I saw the Lord taking root in some of my classmates and turning their lives around. From there, I remained active in vigorously maintaining my faith by joining Christian organizations during my college and graduate school careers. When I moved to the Washington DC area, I knew it wouldn’t feel like home until I found a church home. Thankfully I soon found National Community Church, which I’ve attended for 17 years.
I was born into a Christian home as the daughter of a pastor. My parents felt the call of God leading them toward adoption of foster care. As a result, I have four adopted siblings. We were instilled at an early age of both the knowledge of Jesus Christ and Scripture, but also Christian formation of a strong moral character, obedience, and commitment to the Body of Christ, At the age of 5, I committed my life to Jesus and was baptized at the age of 6. By the grace of God, I have been able to grow in my faith as I walk with Jesus and learn the voice of the Holy Spirit. I have committed myself to developing the spiritual gifts and learn my unique gifts in the Body of Christ and local church, particularly with hospitality. I firmly believe God has led our family to adoption today.
Kenny was born and raised in Southern California. After graduating law school, he moved to Washington, DC where he met and married Abby. He loves history, presidential trivia, and reading. (He read 152 books last year!) His favorite things to do with our children are "Daddy Daughter Donut Dates" on Saturday mornings and taking them to amusement parks to share his love of roller coasters!
Kenny's family lives in Southern California. His parents have been married for 56 years and are "Yaya and Grandad" to the grandkids. His dad is a retired dentist and his mom is a retired teacher. Kenny has one sister who is a pediatrician who lives in California and has two kids. We love to travel to Kauai as a family and try to do so every other year. We also enjoy playing golf together and going to the beach!
Kenny has a bachelors degree in political science and a law degree. (juris doctor) He now works for the federal government.
We LOVE to travel! The moment we get back from one trip, we start planning the next one. Whether its a road trip to a location a few hours away or an international adventure, we love it all! Our children have been traveling with us from a very early age so they are excellent co-adventurers. Our favorite long trips have included Turks and Caicos and Kauai. And our favorite short trips are to our favorite waterpark in southern Virginia and a road trip to New York City at Christimas time.
Abby was born in New York and raised in Southern California. After graduating college, she moved to Washington, DC where she met and married Kenny. She loves running marathons, doing craft projects, and gardening. (She is currently trying to grow lemons in our dining room!) Her favorite things to do with our children are giving the girls mini-manicures at "Mommy's Nail Salon" and taking a picnic lunch to the neighborhood swimming pool.
Abby has a big family who lives all over the world! She has three brothers and two sisters who live in California, Seattle, and Mexico. Abby's parents have been married 40 years and are "Grammie and Pop Pop" to the grandkids and live in Southern California. Abby's dad is a pastor and her mom is a teacher. When they retire, Abby's parents intend to move to Virginia so they will be closer to their grandkids and be a strong support system for our family. Abby's family enjoys playing board games together and the girls love to visit Grammie and Pop Pop's cabin in the mountains.
Most notably, out of Abby's five siblings, four are adopted! As a result, Abby has a keen understanding of adoption and her family is beautifully diverse as a result!
Abby has a bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Masters in Business Administration. She now works in advocacy at a trade association.

We live in a suburb outside of Washington, D.C. in a 4-bedroom townhouse. Our neighborhood has many culturally-diverse families, a community swimming pool, and a huge park across the street. There are also nearby creeks that are perfect for exploring and throwing rocks! We enjoy walking to the playground in our neighborhood. The swings are a big favorite!
The girls have a play area in our house with fun toys and puzzles, as well as a dollhouse, basketball hoop, and art table. We are big fans of crafts and legos!
We are family that does not like to sit still! Our world revolves around adventure and exploring fun new things around our city and region. Its a blessing to be near Washington, DC where we can always find an old favorite like the National Zoo or the Natural History Museum, or something new! When hanging out around the neighborhood, we love to ride our scooters to the pool, have a water balloon fight in the driveway, or walk to the library that is across the street. We try not to overcommit the kids or our family so we limit the kids to two activities at a time so we have enough bandwidth to hop in the car and go somewhere! The one commitment that stays consistent in our week is Sunday morning church, where we worship and serve together as a family.
